Community cohesion strengthened, economic ideas generated through recreational activities: Shahelmey

PUTATAN: Local recreational activities are not only capable of strengthening community cohesion, but can also generate ideas to diversify and enhance the economic potential of respective localities.

Member of Parliament for Putatan, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, said these strengths can be translated through various platforms in efforts to realise a competitive society in the future.

“Many recreational activities have a positive impact on local communities, with some of them able to generate or increase income.

“In this regard, through the bonds of unity established among the community, diverse ideas will emerge to drive new economic activities based on these recreational pursuits,” he said.

He was speaking after officiating a meet-and-greet programme with participants of the Jom Memancing event at the Kampung Tanjung Aru Concrete Jetty here on Saturday night.

The programme, which involved approximately 50 participants, was organised by the Tg Aru Youth Community Club in collaboration with the Al Khauthar Mosque Youth, Tanjung Aru.

Commenting on the activity, Shahelmey said it provided an alternative platform capable of attracting fishing enthusiasts as well as tourists.

“The activities organised by the local youth community are a commendable initiative, as we can see that they are in line with current trends involving interests and recreation.

“An attractive location such as the Kampung Tanjung Aru Concrete Jetty can not only draw fishing enthusiasts, but also has the potential to attract tourists in the future,” he said.

Also present at the programme were the Tanjung Keramat State Assemblyman, Shah Alfie Yahya; Special Officer (Administration & Operations) for Parliament P.173 Putatan, Mahadzir Abd Majid; and Chairman of the Tg Aru Youth Community Club, Mohd Shukry Abdul Kadir.
