KOTA KINABALU: Sabah records a staggering 1,383 number of Covid-19 cases today with more than one thousand cases for the past few days.

In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with (749) which is more than 50 per cent of the total daily cases.

"The high number of close contact cases today is a sign that some of us are still careless in following the standard operating procedure (SOP).

“Therefore, as a reminder, try to reduce as much social activities with friends so that we can reduce the risk of being infected with the virus. This is because some Covid-19 carrier would not even show any symptom,” he said in a statement today.

Of the total cases, Kota Kinabalu still recorded the highest number with (326) cases, followed by Tawau (168), Sandakan (138), Tuaran (92), Penampang (80), Keningau (79), Kota Belud (66), Beaufort (65), Kinabatangan (49), Kota Marudu (41), Papar (39), Beluran (33), Tenom and Putatan (30).

The Covid-19 official spokesperson of Sabah also mentioned that 1,064 of the total cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.

Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 919 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 83,490.

The number of active cases now stands at 4,542 with 3,405 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,083 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.

"To date, there are 142 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 72 of them ventilated

"However, 12 deaths related to the virus were reported today with five in Tawau, three in Sandakan and one each in Keningau, Telupid, Kota Kinabalu and Tenom," he added.
