COVID-19: SABAH RECORDS 230 NEW CASES, FIVE DEATHS

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today recorded 230 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative total of statewide infections to 69,907.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said five more deaths related to the virus were also recorded today with two in Lahad Datu and one each in Kunak, Sandakan and Kudat.

"Of the total cases, 96 cases were detected through close contact screening, while 62 were detected through targeted screening, 49 through cluster screening, 16 from symptomatic screening and seven from other categories," he said in a statement today.

Kudat recorded the highest cases with 69 followed by Kota Belud (28), Pitas (22), Tawau (18), Kota Kinabalu (16), Beaufort (15), Lahad Datu (14), Sandakan and Keningau (10), Kota Marudu (seven), Semporna (six), Putatan (five), Papar and Kalabakan (four), and Penampang (two).

Districts that did not record any cases today are Tambunan, Tuaran, Kuala Penyu, Nabawan, Kinabatangan, Ranau, Tenom, Tongod, Telupid, Sipitang and Beluran.

The number of active cases now stands at 1,619 with 392 treated at hospitals, 1085 in quarantine centres and 142 in detention centres.

"The number of patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 55 with 17 requiring ventilator support," he stated.

As for recoveries, a total of 165 discharges were reported today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 67,609.
