KOTA KINABALU: The 40% revenue entitlement for Sabah remains a "critical" issue requiring urgent resolution and responsible management, DAP Sabah Vice Chairman Datuk Jannie Lasimbang stressed in a statement.

While noting ongoing federal-state discussions, Datuk Jannie expressed concern over the lack of a clear timeline.

"The continued absence of a clear timeline is a source of concern and disappointment, and underscores the need for greater urgency moving forward," she said.

She insisted the entitlement is a constitutional right that must not be treated as "closed or indefinite," calling for persistent commitment from all parties, continued engagements, and legal processes.

Looking ahead, Jannie emphasised preparing Sabah for the funds' arrival through strong governance. "It is important that we plan ahead to ensure that these funds are managed responsibly and effectively for the benefit of the rakyat," she urged.

Key priorities include transparency, anti-corruption measures, fair distribution focusing on rural development, infrastructure, and utilities.

"Public funds must translate into tangible improvements in quality of life, especially for underserved areas," she added, highlighting efficient service delivery and accountability to avoid wastage.

"Ultimately, the realisation of the 40% entitlement is not solely the responsibility of policymakers, but a shared commitment involving institutions, leaders, and citizens alike," Jannie stated.

"With sustained effort, transparency, and unity, this long-standing issue can be resolved in a way that truly benefits the people of Sabah."
