KOTA KINABALU: Desa Group of Companies has contributed food supplies to the Student Kitchen Programme at Tun Fuad Residential College, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
Desa Group Chairman, Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, said the initiative reflects the company’s concern for the welfare of underprivileged students, particularly those from rural areas who face financial constraints.
“The Student Kitchen Programme introduced by UMS is highly beneficial. Desa Group’s contribution is hoped to help ensure that students can more easily access their daily food supplies,” he said when met at the residential college today.

According to Liew, students are also allowed to bring their own raw ingredients as additional dishes if they are able to do so or have specific dietary needs.
“This measure gives students the flexibility to tailor their meals according to their preferences and requirements,” he explained.
He added that collaboration between state government-linked companies (GLCs) and higher education institutions such as UMS is an example of proactive efforts to support student well-being and to strengthen ties between the corporate and education sectors.
“As a state government-owned company, we feel a responsibility to ensure that underprivileged students are not left behind. Programmes like this provide the right platform to contribute,” he said.
The Student Kitchen Programme has become one of UMS’s key initiatives in providing daily food assistance to students in residential colleges, especially those from rural areas who face financial challenges.
Also present was UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Dr Raman Noordin, to witness the official handover of the contribution.
