Donggongon Culture Walk Launched to Boost Penampang Tourism

PENAMPANG: The Penampang Tourism Association (PTA) has officially launched the Donggongon Culture Walk, an initiative designed to strengthen Penampang’s identity as a distinctive cultural and tourism destination while supporting local entrepreneurs.


The launch, held at Bandar Donggongon, brought together representatives from local agencies, community leaders, and members of the media.


Representing Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and Member of Parliament for Penampang, Datuk Ewon Benedick, his Political Secretary attended the event to demonstrate continued federal support for Penampang’s tourism and entrepreneurship development.


PTA Chairman Ben Golimbi delivered the opening address, outlining several ongoing collaborations between PTA and the Penampang District Council (MPP) to boost tourism and promote Penampang’s unique cultural heritage.


In his remarks, the Political Secretary conveyed Datuk Ewon’s appreciation of PTA’s efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the interests of local entrepreneurs and cooperatives in line with the MADANI framework. He noted that Datuk Ewon has provided financial assistance over the past two years to support PTA’s initiatives and expressed confidence that this partnership will continue to contribute to Penampang’s holistic development.


The event was officiated by Noemi Dyena John, who praised PTA’s initiatives as commendable and essential for sustainable community development. PTA Deputy President [name if known] also reiterated the association’s dedication to supporting future programmes that promote tourism and improve local livelihoods.


Also present were representatives from the Sabah Federal Tourism Office, Sabah Tourist Guides Association, Penampang District Council, community leaders led by Kapitan Cina Donggongon, and members of the media.


The launch of the Donggongon Culture Walk highlights the growing role of community-driven efforts in shaping Penampang’s tourism landscape, ensuring that local residents and entrepreneurs alike share in the district’s economic and cultural progress.
