KOTA KINABALU: Marcellus Tambud, Supreme Council Member of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), attended a memorial ceremony today to commemorate the anniversary of the tragic Double Six incident, which took place on 6 June 1976.
The tragedy claimed the lives of several prominent Sabah leaders, including the late Datuk Peter Mojuntin, a highly respected figure in the state's political history.
Marcellus expressed his deep respect and admiration for Datuk Peter Mojuntin, describing him as a courageous and principled leader who steadfastly championed the rights of the people of Sabah.
“Datuk Peter was a symbol of bravery and conviction in the fight for Sabahans’ rights. His untimely passing was a great loss for our state, but the spirit of his struggle continues to inspire both current and future generations,” he said.
He went on to say that the Double Six tragedy remains not only a dark chapter in Sabah’s history but also a solemn reminder of the importance of upholding justice and safeguarding state sovereignty.
The memorial ceremony was also attended by family members of the victims, along with leaders from various backgrounds, all of whom gathered to honour and remember the sacrifices made by Sabah’s past leaders.
