Ewon channels RM70,000 to KLF and Penampang Pensioners' Association

PENAMPANG: Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick has channelled a donation totalling RM70,000 to the Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF) and the Penampang Pensioners' Association to support community programmes on language and welfare in the district.

The Deputy Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship, and Transport said the allocation is hoped to help realise the various initiatives planned by the recipients.

“I am presenting a donation of RM50,000 from the MP's allocation to KLF, as per my commitment during the International Mother Language Day celebrations last February.

“Next, a donation of RM20,000, which is an initial disbursement to the Penampang Pensioners' Association, as per my commitment in the previous meeting with the association."

“I hope this allocation will help implement the initiatives to be organised by both organisations,” he said.

The donation was presented by the Head of the Penampang MP Service Centre Relations Officer, Bryan Matasing, on his behalf, at the Penampang MP Service Office here yesterday.

Meanwhile, KLF's Chief Executive Officer, Rita Lasimbang, expressed gratitude for Datuk Ewon's continued support.

She said the donation will be used to enhance the Kadazan-English-Malay Webonary, launched during the International Mother Language Day celebrations on 21 February.

She noted that the platform compiles over 30,000 Kadazan entries and nearly 29,000 Malay entries as an effort to address the decline in the number of Kadazan speakers in Sabah.

In the meantime, the Coordinator Chairman of the Sabah Government Pensioners' Association Penampang branch, Lawrence Misi, also expressed appreciation for the received donation.

He said the allocation will be utilised to realise various association activities, including programmes for the International Day of Older Persons.
