Five districts receive Tamu Desa Premises Development Programme appointment

KOTA KINABALU: The appointments as supervising officers for Tamu Desa Premises Development programme were bestowed to five individuals representing their respective districts.
Azizul Alias, the Division Secretary of the Cooperative Division of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (MEDC), was present to hand over the appointment letters officially.
The individuals included Kota Belud District Officer Peter Jiton, Kudat District Officer Alexander Yong, Engineer Abdullah Fenddy Paul, representing Nabawan District; Engineer Mohammad Hafiz Abdullah, representing Sipitang District; and Assistant District Officer Tinah Maralin, who represented Kota Marudu.
During the event Abdul Rashid Abdul Rani, Chief Assistant Secretary of the Cooperative Management Division for Hawkers and Small Traders with MEDC shared the appointments made today allowed them to proceed with their Tamu Desa programme immediately.
“The others who were scheduled to receive their letters of appointment today will be granted them later, as their sites are either not yet ready, due to land issues, among others. This marks the second phase of the Tamu Desa programme, which includes 17 project sites with a total budget of three million ringgit for this phase, and we will initiate this project as soon as possible.”
Recently, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC), Datuk Ewon Benedick shared that a total of 36 new construction and upgrading projects for Tamu Desa premises across Sabah were currently underway and expected to be fully completed by October this year.
He also stated that the implementation of the first phase of the project involved 16 district offices and municipal councils in Sabah.
According to him, he chaired a coordination meeting for the Sabah Premises Development Programme (Tamu Desa) which involved all the district offices and municipal councils concerned and was briefed on the performance of the implementation in each district.
"In several districts, some have achieved implementation performance of up to 60 percent of the project’s target schedule. I wish to thank all the District Offices and Municipal Councils involved and encourage them to monitor the implementation to ensure it is completed on schedule," he stated.
Ewon made these remarks after chairing the coordination meeting for the Sabah Premises Development Programme (Tamu Desa) at the Federal Secretary's Office in Sabah.
He also expressed his desire for more Tamu Desa premises to be built or upgraded in the next phase and stated that he would strive to secure appropriate funding for this purpose.
According to him, he had requested the district offices and municipal councils to submit a list of actual needs according to priority for the construction or upgrading of the community markets and Rural Markets, as that would guide him and his Ministry in planning their budget.
