SANDAKAN: Food providers, particularly those planning to trade during the month of Ramadan, have been urged to place greater emphasis on food quality and hygiene through proper training.
The call was made by Hajah Merdiline Haji Albaris when she officiated the Food Handler Training Course for 100 women traders and hawkers held in Sungai Manila recently.
She said the attractiveness of food was not determined by taste alone, but also by its overall quality.

“Quality complements taste. It is an essential aspect of the food served and should always be given priority,” she said.
Hajah Merdiline added that while cleanliness of food premises and stalls was important, quality food also depended on the ingredients used in its preparation.
“A clean food stall is certainly appealing, but it becomes even more attractive when the food offered is of high quality,” she said.
She expressed confidence that participants would apply the knowledge gained from the course to improve the quality of food produced.
The Food Handler Training Course, organised by FB Training Academy, was conducted over two days on 7 and 8 February 2026, involving a total of 100 participants.
The programme was implemented in stages, with the first series held on 7 February 2026 comprising two sessions — a morning session and an afternoon session — each attended by 25 participants. The second series continued on 8 February 2026 and concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony.
The programme proceeded smoothly with the cooperation of Sawit Kinabalu, the Sandakan Senior Citizens Association, and other involved parties, as well as the strong commitment shown by the participants.
