KOTA KINABALU: The Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah II, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, praised the progressive steps taken by Jetama Sdn Bhd, which has made history as the first government-linked company (GLC) to fully sponsor the Kaamatan celebrations at the branch and district levels of the KDCA.
He stated that this initiative serves as an excellent example of how the corporate sector can play a vital role in empowering culture and building a cohesive society.
"I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to KDCA Kapayan and Jetama for the successful organisation of such a meaningful Kaamatan celebration this year," he said during the official closing ceremony of the Kaamatan KDCA Kapayan Jetama 2025 at the Kampung Kibouvang hall in Kepayan today.
Dr. Joachim, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Housing, noted that such extraordinary support proves that GLCs can also act as catalysts for the formation of an inclusive and harmonious society.
He also commended this year's Kaamatan theme, "Kaamatan for All," which he described as being in line with the reality of the multi-ethnic, religious, and cultural society in Sabah.
"This harvest festival is not just a celebration of the Kadazandusun community, but a cultural heritage that unites the people through the spirit of gratitude, mutual assistance, and togetherness," said the Deputy President of the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA).
According to him, such events provide opportunities for the younger generation to understand and appreciate their own culture, including through the Sumazau dance, the sounds of the gong, traditional clothing, and heritage food.
At the same time, he mentioned that it also opens up economic avenues for local entrepreneurs as well as artists and cultural practitioners.
In this regard, he urged more companies to emulate Jetama's initiative by not only fulfilling their corporate social responsibility (CSR) but also leading progressive and visionary cultural empowerment.
"I would like to express my congratulations and thanks to Jetama and the entire organising committee for their commitment and hard work," he said.
Also present at the event were the State Assemblywoman for Kapayan, Jannie Lasimbang, who is also the Chairperson of the Village Development Cooperative, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Gundohing Ts. Jude Abel Logijin; the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Jetama Sdn Bhd, Datuk Yusuf Abd Manan and Datuk Ahmad Naim Uddang; the General Manager of Petronas Sabah and Labuan, Siti Ayu Haniza Abdul Wahab; the District Chief of Penampang, OKK Charles Masuli; and the Chief of Native Affairs, Alice Dison.
The ceremony was further enlivened by various cultural performances, traditional foods, and community participation that embody the spirit of Kaamatan as a festival for the people of Sabah.
