TUARAN: With nomination day less than two weeks away, grassroots leaders from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) have stepped up coordination efforts to ensure Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) retains the Kiulu seat amid expectations of a multi-cornered contest.

In a show of unity and preparedness, both component parties came together for a Polling Agent and Counting Agent (PACA) Workshop organised by the Kiulu GRS election machinery committee in Tamparuli on Monday.

The session aimed to strengthen operational coordination, familiarise agents with electoral procedures, and reinforce teamwork ahead of polling day.

Among those present were GRS and PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, GRS State PACA Head and Sulaman PGRS Deputy Chief Datuk Abdul Kasim Razali, and Kiulu PGRS Deputy Chief Datuk George Teo.

Joniston said the close cooperation between PBS and PGRS in Kiulu reflects GRS’s strength as a coalition that upholds unity and discipline among its component parties.

“This collaboration at the grassroots level demonstrates how GRS component parties can work together effectively towards a shared goal."

"Our focus is not on who we are up against, but on ensuring every vote is protected and every process runs smoothly."

"What people want is a government that delivers, and that is what GRS will continue to do. We aim to maintain that trust by working as one team,” he said.

Joniston, the incumbent Kiulu assemblyman, has been widely credited with driving development in the constituency, from strengthening rural tourism and agriculture to advancing infrastructure and community planning initiatives that support local livelihoods.

Abdul Kasim noted that Joniston continues to enjoy strong grassroots support due to his approachable leadership and consistent commitment to community development.

He added that Joniston’s efforts in transforming Kiulu into a growing tourism and agricultural hub reflect his dedication to improving living standards and creating new opportunities for local residents.

Meanwhile, Teo said the turnout of around 200 grassroots leaders from PBS and PGRS for the PACA briefing reflected strong backing for the GRS candidate and the readiness of party workers to ensure an efficient and transparent election operation.

“This workshop helped us align our strategies and ensure everyone understands their roles. It forms part of our collective effort to keep the election process organised and transparent,” he said.
