TELUPID: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government is capable of ensuring political stability in the state as it is a coalition of eight local parties focused on Sabah’s development, said Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
He stated that this political stability has been a key driver of the state's economic growth since GRS took over the administration.
“GRS must continue governing the state to ensure the continuity of comprehensive economic progress,” he said.
Dr Joachim, who is also the Acting President of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), made the statement while officiating the 40th Annual General Conference of the PBS Telupid Division at the Community Hall in Kampung Telupid two days ago.
He also emphasised that all current holders of State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats previously won will continue to represent GRS in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17).
In this regard, he urged the entire PBS Telupid machinery and membership to unite and give their full support to the PBS Telupid Division Chief and incumbent Telupid Assemblyman, Datuk Jonnybone J. Kurum, to defend the seat in the upcoming state polls.
“He (Jonnybone) has always been vocal in the Assembly and committed to working for the well-being of the people of Telupid. Therefore, it is only right that we ensure his re-election,” said Dr Joachim, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Housing (KKTP).
Dr Joachim also extended his congratulations to the Organising Chairman, Marcellus Jeffrey, and the committee members of the PBS Telupid Division for successfully organising the conference.
He further expressed his appreciation to PBS Senior Adviser, Datuk Seri Michael Asang, a former Labuk Assemblyman, who was also present at the event.
“It should be remembered that the Telupid seat was previously carved out of the Labuk constituency, and Datuk Seri Michael Asang once played a significant role in this area,” he added.
Also in attendance were Labuk Assemblyman and Sabah People's Ideas Party (Gagasan Rakyat) Leader, Datuk Samad Jamri, along with representatives from Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Gagasan Rakyat’s Telupid Division.
Meanwhile, Datuk Jonnybone also expressed his gratitude to Dr Joachim for attending the event despite his packed schedule, and thanked him for the special KKTP allocation to refurbish the Telupid District Native Court building. He also acknowledged the upcoming amendments to related enactments aimed at strengthening the institution.
