KENINGAU: Datin Doris Jopirit, wife of Bingkor State Assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Public Works, Datuk Robert Tawik @ Nordin visited the quiet rural community of Kampung Tamanang Ulu Matanoi, recently.
As part of the Ziarah Kasih Wanita GRS N.40 Bingkor programme, Datin Doris, reached out to the most vulnerable in the village: the bedridden, the elderly, and families struggling to care for young children in difficult circumstances.
Among those visited was Epah Intang, an elderly woman confined to her bed due to illness. Her care needs are constant and overwhelming, yet her family soldiers on with quiet dignity. For them, the visit brought not just supplies, but an emotional lift, proof that their hardships are recognised at the highest levels.
Doris also spent time with the families of Tan Tao Ming, Valentine Jasiun, and Jacky Tan, all of whom are raising small children in modest homes.
These families face the daily challenges of balancing income, childcare, and rising living costs, often without external support.
The donations of essentials such as food, nappies, and hygiene items were deeply appreciated but it was the empathy and sincere conversation that left the most lasting impression.
“This is not a grand ceremony or campaign show. This is about being present in people’s lives,” Doris shared, adding ,“We are here not just to give, but to listen, to understand, and to stand with the people.”
The visit to Kampung Tamanang underscored the broader message of the Ziarah Kasih programme: that leadership must extend beyond policy and infrastructure into the homes and hearts of the rakyat.
In rural communities like Tamanang, where resources are limited and government presence can feel distant, this kind of personal engagement carries significant emotional and social weight.
