KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor expressed his hope that the people of Sabah will give his government another opportunity to continue governing the state. He stated that there is still much work to be done by the government to advance the state and enhance the welfare of its citizens.
"With open hearts and minds, I hope this government will be given another chance by the people to continue ruling this blessed state. If we are returned to power, God willing, we will remain united in furthering the implementation of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Policy Direction," he said during the New Year 2025 address to public servants at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Thursday.
He noted that the government's overarching agenda today is to make Sabah a remarkable and excellent state across various development sectors in the future. According to him, the government has established a clear and comprehensive policy that is best for the state and its people. The SMJ Policy Direction we have designed aligns with current needs and demands, aimed at holistic progress and welfare that encompasses all layers of society.
He stated that in order to strengthen the agenda of advancing the state of Sabah, a strong and continuous collaboration and understanding between state leaders and public servants is necessary, built on responsibility and a love for our beloved state and homeland.
"This is equally true for the close relationship that has already been established between the State Government and the Federal Government. This relationship, akin to the bond between bamboo and its banks, must not only be maintained but also strengthened," he added.
He explained that the good relationship between the State Government and the Federal Government has brought numerous benefits to Sabah. Various issues and matters have not only been negotiable but have also been resolved. "This includes issues related to legislation and acts, matters concerning the Malaysia Agreement 1963, and, more importantly, issues regarding cooperation or collaboration between the State Government and PETRONAS," he elaborated.
Hajiji expressed his gratitude to all members of the state and federal public services who have continuously supported and backed his leadership over the past nearly five years. "Despite the various obstacles and challenges I have faced, I can still take pride in the fact that you, the public servants, have remained steadfastly behind me to this day," he asserted.
Hajiji acknowledged their commitment and unwavering support in achieving the state's development agenda, including those who have dedicated themselves to the sectors of security, education, and health. "May our state and country remain peaceful and prosperous, thriving and well. Together, let us strengthen our resolve and commitment to realise the aspirations and dreams of making Sabah – the Land Below the Wind – a progressive, flourishing, peaceful, and harmonious state," he concluded.
