KOTA KINABALU: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Youth is disappointed with the government’s apparent delay in tabling the Anti-Hop Bill in Parliament. Its chief, Felix Joseph Saang said the delay has raised questions among the people, who clearly want the Anti-Hop Bill to be passed. “The people are urging and demanding for the immediate tabling and approval of the Federal Constitution Amendment Bill (Anti-Hop Bill). “What is the reason behind Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) move to delay the process. The country is falling apart and has become a laughing stock to the world due to political frogs. “Only in Malaysia you will find parties who have actually won the election but still ended up being the opposition while the losing party becomes the government due to the party hopping culture,” Felix said after the launching of UPKO branches in Paitan, Sugut, here on Saturday. Felix said this would not bring any benefit since it will only bring political instability, which would then lead to economic downfall. Therefore, he stressed that the Anti-Hop Bill must be passed immediately to prevent self-centred politicians from party hopping for their own benefit. "The government has to respect the MoU that has been signed with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for political stability," he said. He added that if the BN-PN Government fail to table the Anti-Hop Bill, it will prove that they have a plan to continue playing dirty politics in the 15th General Elections by ‘buying off’ elected representatives. “The people must rise up and sternly oppose dirty politics to save our country, which is worsening day by day. Implement the Anti-Hop Bill. Do not destroy the future of the country, "he said. On April 6, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law), Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar revealed that the Anti-Hop Bill, which was supposed to be tabled on Monday, had been postponed for the second time. However, during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) earlier meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yakoob on the status of the Bill, Ismail had given his word that no changes would be done to the schedule of the special Dewan Rakyat sitting (to be held on April 11), which has been distributed to the Members of Parliament. Separately, during the ceremony, Felix received 500 membership application forms from several villages. He thanked the people of Paitan, Sugut for choosing UPKO as their platform to fight for their rights. According to Felix, UPKO is committed, sincere, and focused in its fight for the rights of Sabahans.
