KOTA KINABALU: Luyang Assemblyman Samuel Wong Tshun Chuen highlighted that Sabah boasts strong natural attractions but lacks diversified products and innovative tourism offerings.

This results in shorter visitor stays and low repeat VISITS, he said.

He advocated expanding the sector beyond traditional attractions by developing new segments such as food festivals, agritourism, sports tourism, cultural events, and e-sports.

He also suggested positioning Sabah as a regional hub for events.

However, he warned that illegal tour operators and lax enforcement continue to erode the industry.

Persistent issues with urban cleanliness further harm the state's tourism image and competitiveness.

He raised these points as a key focus during his debate on the Sabah government’s policy speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting.
