KOTA KINABALU: Miss Taanusiya Chetty of Kuala Lumpur was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2024 by reigning Miss World Malaysia 2023 Saroop Roshi during the Miss World Malaysia Grand Finals on Tuesday night. Second place went to Kelly Eleanor Tseu and third place went to Hantze Liow.

International Events can enhance tourism and benefit local industries, Datuk Christina Liew, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment had stated in her officiating speech during the event.

She noted that such collaborations not only boost brand visibility on a global scale but also create invaluable opportunities for local talent to engage.

“The Ministry acknowledges that events like these bring significant advantages to our local industries, including increased brand visibility and opportunities for local talents,” Christina stated.

“Moreover, your partnerships with local non-profit organizations, such as Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah, the KadazanDusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Women’s Council, and SEED are making a positive impact on our society.”

Highlighting her commitment to supporting initiatives that promote Sabah, Christina encouraged the organisers to continue attracting international events to the state, reinforcing its reputation as a premier destination for excellence.

She also expressed gratitude to Jment Lim, the Founder of Sunstrong Entertainment, for his invaluable role as co-organiser of the event.

“Your collaboration with Dr. Sean Wong, the franchise owner of Miss World Malaysia has not only made this event possible, but it has also enhanced its impact in promoting Sabah tourism and uplifting local communities,” she remarked.

Special recognition was given to Mrs. Julia Morley CBE and the Miss World Organisation for their unwavering support for Sabah.

“Miss World’s mission of ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ aligns perfectly with our values here in Sabah,” Liew continued.

“Through their efforts, they have amplified the stories of our people, championed causes close to our hearts, and showcased the magic of Sabah to the world.”

“This event goes beyond crowning a new queen. It is about empowering young women, inspiring them to enact positive change, and reminding us all of the profound impact we can have when beauty meets purpose. I am deeply moved by the dedication of our finalists, who embody the diverse voices of Malaysia and share a common dream of creating positive change in our country.”

Christina extended her appreciation to the partners, sponsors, and esteemed media present, acknowledging their invaluable support.

"Your participation tonight ensures that the legacy of Miss World Malaysia continues to strengthen, touching more lives and creating a brighter future for all.”

In closing, she congratulated the finalists for their achievements thus far, wishing them well on their journeys ahead.

“Let us celebrate this evening with pride for what we have accomplished and excitement for what the future holds,” she said, encapsulating the true essence of the festival: a commitment to service, a celebration of diversity, and a platform for meaningful change.
