Jamawi Officiates Tenom Dragon and Lion Dance Competition

TENOM: The Dragon and Lion Dance Competition organised by the Yung Yee Association of Tenom at Dewan Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom here was officiated by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar.
Jamawi who is also Melalap State Assemblyman expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the association, led by its Chairman Tay Kok Kiong, as well as the Organising Chairman, Chang Pei Pei, for inviting him to officiate the event.
He also congratulated the 140 participants from 14 associations across Sabah who took part in the competition.

Among the districts represented were Tenom, Keningau, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Beaufort, Membakut, Inanam and Papar.
“This competition is being held for the second time, following its last edition eight years ago.
“In addition, it provides an opportunity for the people of Tenom to witness the impressive skills of lion dance performers from across the state of Sabah,” he said.
Jamawi also announced that his office will be organising a three-day programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations from 13 to 15 February at Maleh Square.
He said a variety of activities have been planned, including sales booths, colouring and drawing competitions for children, as well as other activities.
“I invite people from all walks of life to come together to enliven the Chinese New Year celebrations for the Melalap State Constituency on 13, 14 and 15 February,” he said.
Also present were the Melalap Constituency Community Development Leader (PPM), Denesly Justin, as well as several Kapitan Cina.
