KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, today undertook a working visit to the Likas Fisheries Complex.

The visit aimed to hear briefings and obtain a comprehensive overview of the structure and functions of the Sabah Fisheries Department, as well as to identify issues and seek solutions to enhance the quality of the department’s services.

During the visit, Jamawi was briefed by the Director of Sabah Fisheries, Datin Dr Shuhada Mustapha, and the Senior Assistant Director of Biosecurity, Matlan @ Abdul Rahim Thaufeck, at the Main Meeting Room.

Also present was the Ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary II, Maria David Edick.

In his remarks, Jamawi emphasised the ministry’s commitment to making its services more people-oriented; as such, all agencies under the ministry must carry out this mandate comprehensively.

He further noted that personnel from the three main agencies, namely the Fisheries Department, the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) and SAFMA, are not in competition with one another, but rather complement each other so that every function and role undertaken can deliver maximum benefit to the people.

Jamawi also requested the Fisheries Department to provide necessities such as fish fry and related inputs to support the implementation of the Jelajah Kebun Dapur programme to be carried out in due course.

In a separate engagement, Jamawi, together with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Datuk Leonard Stephen Poyong, attended a meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry Malaysia Cooperative (KOTANI).
