KENINGAU: A new chapter in youth leadership in interior Sabah has been marked with the official chartering of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Keningau Baru.

JCI Malaysia National President Vincent Leng described the chartering as a significant step in expanding leadership opportunities among young people in the state, particularly in rural areas.

“The chartering of JCI Keningau Baru reflects the strength and growth of young leaders in Sabah.

“This new local organisation will serve as an important platform to develop capable, responsible and action-driven youth who will contribute meaningfully to society,” he said at the Charter Night here recently.

A highlight of the event was the induction of 22 new members from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds, including professionals and government officers.

The participation reflects growing interest among young people in leadership development, civic engagement and community-based initiatives in the Keningau district.

Founder of JCI Keningau Baru, Wilson Gan, said the organisation was established with a vision to act as a catalyst for positive change in the interior of Sabah.

“The vision behind JCI Keningau Baru is to empower youth to take the lead in driving community development and creating meaningful impact,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ling Guong Zhin was officially installed as the Charter President, together with the newly elected Board of Directors, marking the formal establishment of the organisation’s leadership structure.

In his speech, Ling emphasised the importance of providing opportunities for young people in Keningau and the interior of Sabah to develop leadership capabilities and contribute to their communities.

“This is just the beginning. Our priority is to grow steadily, remain consistent and ensure that our efforts bring tangible benefits to the Keningau community,” he said.

With its official chartering, JCI Keningau Baru joins a global network spanning more than 100 countries, aimed at empowering youth aged between 18 and 40 to create meaningful impact in their communities through leadership development, community initiatives and international collaboration.
