PENAMPANG: State Assemblywoman for Kapayan Jannie Lasimbang is aiming to raise 150 food baskets per week to help those who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said her office will continue to find the resources to help those in need, including migrant workers.

"As the Covid-19 pandemic rages on and devastating the lives for so many people, it is heartening that generous donors from all walks of life have stepped forward to help others in need.

"Since 2020, the Kapayan Food Bank which is managed together by Touching Life Club Sabah, PACOS Trust and the Office of ADUN Kapayan has been fund-raising and organising distribution of food aid.

"For the past month, we have been receiving donations in cash and also items from many generous donors for which I am very grateful for," she said in her statement.

According to her, her office has on Monday received 500 packs of chocolates from the director of KK Chocolate House Sdn Bhd, Siaw Ten Hon.

She expressed gratitude to the company whose clients were mostly tourists for its commitment to donate despite facing difficulties to market their products currently.

"I delivered the chocolates on Friday to bring cheers to staff of the Prisons Department who have been under lockdown for three weeks now.

"Last Tuesday, 200 food packs donated by Suang Tian Seafood restaurant were distributed to stall owners at Pasar Borong Sayur Millenium, Kepayan.

"It is our humble way of saying 'thank you' to stall owners who have been donating vegetables to the needy during the last few months of the pandemic."

Jannie also thanked all donors who have contributed during this period and urged others to practice giving to demonstrate humanity that everyone can be proud of.
