KOTA KINABALU: A game race that will showcase historical landmarks in Kota Kinabalu city is scheduled for September, organised by KSRun Athletics Club.

The North Borneo Race will be limited to 70 teams of four people each, who will have to solve puzzles and complete challenges related to the city’s culture and history.

The race will be held in conjunction with Malaysia Day on 16 September this year.

Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai was briefed about the race by the event organiser Wendy John on Wednesday.

He said that the race was in line with the new Sabah destination logo, ‘Feel Sabah, North Borneo’ and he hoped that it would attract participants from other states and tourists.

“Kota Kinabalu City, which is the State Capital and the main entry point into Sabah, has many historical sites that are not well-known.

“The North Borneo Race is an educational and beneficial event for anyone who wants to learn more about the city’s past,” he said.

Wendy said that the race was originally planned for June but postponed to September in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

She said that participants would have to navigate their way in the city and interact with locals where teams would travel by car and on foot throughout the race.

The winning team will receive RM3,000, followed by RM2,000 for the first-runner up and RM1,000 for the second-runner up. Those interested in joining can visit the KSRun Athletics Club Facebook page.
