KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today registered one new Covid-19 cluster, known as the Patuma Cluster in Kota Kinabalu.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the cluster has a cumulative total of 11 positive cases.
"Positive cases in the cluster have started being recorded since May 18 through symptomatic screening at private clinics.
"The index case is a 55-year-old Grab driver who is also the bilal in Al Falah Mosque, Kepayan," he said in a statement today.
Following the case, contact screening has been conducted and found 10 more individuals to have contracted the virus.
"Based on an early investigation, the male index case is believed to have contracted the virus from pilgrims that failed to abide by the stern standard operating procedures (SOPs) while being in the mosque.
"In addition, the potential for transmission is also contributed by a handful of pilgrims who still attend the mosque despite having symptoms," said Masidi.
As of today, a total of 133 first samples have been taken with 33 of the samples still awaiting results.
