KOTA KINABALU: KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital has proudly launched its latest wellness initiative, “KPJ GreenBite: Nourishing Health, Empowering Lives”, aimed at encouraging a healthier lifestyle among its staff, patients, visitors, and the broader Damai Luyang community.
The launch ceremony, held at the hospital, was officiated by Dr Lim Keok Tang, Medical Director of KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, in the presence of hospital management, clinical staff, and invited guests.
A collaboration between KPJ Sabah and OSBEL, the programme represents a pioneering effort by a private specialist hospital in Sabah to introduce health-conscious, eco-friendly meal options as part of its wider commitment to sustainable healthcare and community well-being.
Aligned with KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s Green Hospital vision under its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, KPJ GreenBite seeks not only to serve nutritious meals but also to foster a culture of healthy living, disease prevention, and environmental responsibility.
“As healthcare providers, our responsibility is not only to treat illness but also to inspire and empower individuals to live healthier, longer lives,” said Dr Lim Keok Tang.
“KPJ GreenBite reflects our commitment to preventive healthcare, workplace wellness, and sustainability—for our staff, our patients, and our community.”
The initiative features a carefully designed menu offering balanced meals tailored to various dietary needs, including diabetic-friendly, low-sodium, high-fibre, and plant-based options.
These nutritious choices will be available daily through the hospital’s food services to staff, patients, and visitors.
In recognition of its efforts, KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital was recently awarded the “Clean and Green Hospital” title by Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK), a significant acknowledgement of its ongoing commitment to environmental care and public health.
KPJ GreenBite reinforces this achievement through sustainable food sourcing from local producers, the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable packaging, and food waste reduction strategies such as portion control and composting.
As the first private specialist hospital in Sabah to introduce a health-focused food initiative on this scale, KPJ Sabah also aims to engage the local Damai Luyang community and raise public awareness of the importance of good nutrition.
“We hope to inspire our surrounding community to adopt healthier eating habits and to be more mindful of the impact nutrition has on everyday life,” said Dr Lim.
“Through KPJ GreenBite, we are taking a step towards a healthier and more sustainable Kota Kinabalu.”
The initiative is expected to serve as a model for other healthcare institutions, aligning with national efforts to curb non-communicable diseases and reduce environmental impact.
KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital is a member of KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Malaysia’s largest network of private specialist hospitals.
With a strong focus on clinical excellence, sustainability, and community engagement, KPJ Sabah continues to lead through innovative programmes that support both patient care and public well-being.
