Agoda further reports that, based on accommodation searches, Bangkok, Thailand, remains the most popular destination among Malaysians travelling abroad for the Lunar New Year holiday.
Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang have emerged as the leading inbound destinations for travellers to Malaysia. This trend highlights a growing interest in Malaysia’s vibrant cultural heritage and urban experiences. Kuala Lumpur, with its iconic skyline and diverse culinary scene, offers an appealing mix of modernity and tradition. Johor Bahru attracts visitors with its cultural landmarks, whilst Penang is celebrated for its historic architecture and renowned street food. These preferences indicate that travellers are seeking destinations that combine cultural exploration with urban adventure.
Kuala Lumpur also tops the list as the most popular domestic destination among Malaysian travellers, followed by Penang and Malacca. Malacca, with its historic sites and colonial charm, appeals to those eager to delve into Malaysia’s past. These trends reflect a growing appreciation for local culture and history, alongside a desire for diverse experiences.
Meanwhile, Bangkok ranks as the top outbound destination for Malaysian travellers, followed by Hat Yai and Tokyo. This preference underlines a desire for cultural exploration and varied experiences. Bangkok’s lively street life and cultural landmarks offer a dynamic city experience, while Hat Yai’s bustling markets and local cuisine provide a more relaxed yet immersive escape. Tokyo, with its blend of tradition and cutting-edge innovation, appeals to travellers seeking both cultural depth and modern excitement.
