LABUAN MMEA DETAINS OFFSHORE SUPPORT VESSEL FOR DOCKING WITHOUT PERMISSION

30 Jan 2020

LABUAN: The Labuan Maritime Zone Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained an offshore support vessel for anchoring without permission at 0.5 nautical miles southeast of Manjarasa, Labuan.

Labuan Maritime Zone director Captain (Maritime) Nudin Jusoh said the vessel, operated by a crew of 15 including the captain, was detained at around 9.50 am Thursday during Op Khas Bersama.

He said the operation targeted commercial ships, especially trading vessels and offshore support vessels.

During an inspection of the vessel, the captain failed to provide any authorisation to anchor from the Malaysian Marine Department director.

The case would be investigated under Section 419 B of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for anchoring without permission, which provides for a fine of not more than RM100,000 or up to two years’ jail or both or conviction, he added. -Bernama
