KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will prioritise intensified road maintenance across the state during the first half of 2026, following mounting public complaints over deteriorating road conditions.
The party’s Supreme Council was briefed on the initiative during its first meeting of the year, held at LDP headquarters in Kepayan on Sunday. The focus will be led by the party’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Utilities (BEAUFRAS).
According to the briefing, road maintenance efforts will include repairing cracks and potholes, as well as full resurfacing where necessary. The move comes in response to numerous complaints received by the bureau and the party, including grievances widely aired by Sabahans on social media.
In the initial phase, BEAUFRAS will concentrate on Greater Kota Kinabalu, with particular attention on Api Api, Likas, Luyang and surrounding areas. The bureau will then extend its focus to other urban and suburban locations throughout Sabah.
To support the effort, BEAUFRAS has requested LDP division chairmen and their respective teams across the state to assist in identifying roads requiring maintenance in their districts. The party said this approach would leverage local knowledge and familiarity with specific towns and areas.
LDP GRS BEAUFRAS director Peggy Liow said the coordinated exercise would involve collecting detailed reports, including photographs, location coordinates and proposed repair or resurfacing recommendations for affected roads.
She said the initiative is intended to complement the Sabah state government’s 2026 focus on resolving key infrastructure challenges, including water, electricity and road-related issues.
“The systematic gathering of on-the-ground information will help ensure road maintenance issues are addressed more effectively and in line with the needs of local communities,” she said.
