KENINGAU: Kampung Sandapak Baru villagers paid heartfelt tribute to Datuk Robert Tawik @ Nordin, describing his leadership as “Maasiu Kopio” a phrase in the Dusun Gana language meaning “the best” in recognition of his continued commitment to grassroots development.
The phrase reflects the community’s appreciation for a leader they say has brought meaningful improvements to their daily lives and never strayed from his duty as a representative.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairman Rayner Eswar Munting expressed appreciation for Robert’s dedication and practical approach to leadership.
“Our village has changed significantly. We now enjoy proper infrastructure and sealed road. We thank datukE Robert, for his dedication,” he said.
The village has undergone a visible transformation through a phased road infrastructure project, led under Robert’s supervision. So far, 957 metres of road have been successfully completed, with a third phase of 150 metres due to begin shortly.
Residents say the upgraded roads have improved both accessibility and safety. Local villager Tommy Enggon Asong described the change as a step forward for rural life.
“We feel safer and more connected. The changes have brought our village closer to modern standards.,” he said.
The development is part of Robert’s wider commitment as Assemblyman for Bingkor and Assistant Minister of Works, Sabah, to deliver inclusive infrastructure across the state, reaching the most remote areas.
Well-known for his “turun padang” or hands-on leadership style, Robert regularly engages with his constituents, listens to their concerns, and ensures that projects are implemented and not merely promised.
With the 17th Sabah State Election on the horizon, the villagers have expressed not only their gratitude but their continued loyalty to the man they view as more than just an elected representative.
“He is not just a politician , he is family to us. Leaders like him are rare. We will continue to stand by him,” said Rayner.
Residents also offered prayers for Robert’s continued health and strength, acknowledging his role as a pillar of development in their community and a leader who has remained firmly grounded in the needs of the people.
