MEDAN, Indonesia: Malaysia has firmly established itself as a premier destination for Indonesian patients seeking prompt, dependable healthcare. After its previous major outreach in 2022, Malaysia Healthcare returns to Medan this year, rekindling ties with a community that regards Malaysian hospitals as the gold standard for second opinions and specialised treatments.

Malaysian hospitals are renowned for their internationally accredited facilities, expert specialists, and patient-focused care, all at competitive prices with culturally attuned services.

This enduring patient flow has forged a robust Medan–Penang healthcare corridor, linking North Sumatra residents to Malaysia's leading medical hubs.

The region serves a catchment population exceeding 15 million, with Medan as the key gateway for patients from areas like Aceh, Padang, Pekanbaru, and Binjau. Just 160 km across the Straits of Malacca, Penang lies a swift 40–45-minute flight away, bolstered by around 56 weekly flights to Malaysia's hospital centres.

Such accessibility positions Malaysian hospitals as the most convenient overseas option for western Indonesians. Indonesians drive Malaysia's medical tourism, contributing about 65% of its revenue.

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council is bolstering these links via the national Malaysia Healthcare brand, under the 'Healing Meets Hospitality' ethos and Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026, to enhance regional collaboration and access.

Leading hospitals join MHX Medan 2026, including award-winners Island Hospital Penang (Malaysia’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital), Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), Mahkota Medical Centre, and Subang Jaya Medical Centre, plus Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists, GenPrime Everlink Fertility Centre, Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Hospital Picaso, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2, Johor Specialist Hospital, MSU Medical Centre, Northern Heart Hospital Penang, Optimax Eye Specialist Centre, Penang Adventist Hospital, Prince Court Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Medical Centre Penang, and Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara.

Attendees can consult specialists, discuss treatments, and secure second opinions in high-demand fields like cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, fertility, and health screenings.

Building on MHX Medan 2022's 1,514 enquiries, the event targets at least 1,665 leads, drawing families, patients eyeing short-haul care, facilitators, and partners keen on Malaysia–Indonesia ties.
