MAN KILLED IN BEAUFORT CRASH

KOTA KINABALU: An Indian national was killed after a four-wheel-drive (4WD) car he was on lost controlled and overturned at the Lumadan Forest Reserve in Beaufort yesterday.

The victim, 46-year-old Kusan Anumanthan Kumar who was a substation construction worker was travelling with eight other individuals.

Beaufort district police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmir Abd Razak said the incident occurred at 1.15pm as they were on the way home after carrying out electrical substation work in the forest area.

During the incident, the driver of the vehicle lost control while reversing and skidded to the right side of the road and overturned.

“The victim who was seated at the back suffered severe injury on his neck and was pronounced dead at the location by medical officer,” he said in a statement here, Monday.

The driver and six other passengers however only sustained minor injury.

Early investigation found that the cause of the incident was due to the driver’s carelessness in maneuvering the vehicle.

No element of crime was detected and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
