KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah Chapter will host the MATTA Fair Sabah 2026 from 17 to 19 April at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), bringing together travel deals, tour packages, flight promotions and hospitality offers under one roof.

Organising Chairman of MATTA Fair Sabah 2026, Mohd Azlan Saleh Abd Salam, said the three-day fair aims to further strengthen Sabah’s position as a key tourism destination while creating broader opportunities for industry players and local communities.

Sabah, located on the island of Borneo, continues to play a vital role in Malaysia’s tourism development. Known for its rich biodiversity, Mount Kinabalu and diverse cultural heritage, the state attracts both domestic and international travellers seeking authentic, nature-based experiences.

These sights will be duly promoted during the event by participating tourism industry players.

Besides that rural entrepreneurs will also be invited to sell their wares, which include handicrafts and food.

According to him, a few food and beverage vendors will also be present.

Azlan said this year’s fair will feature more than 150 exhibition booths, reflecting strong industry participation and renewed public confidence in travel.

“This encouraging performance reflects the public’s growing confidence to travel and the resilience of the tourism industry,” he said. “MATTA remains committed to supporting both domestic and inbound tourism as key contributors to Malaysia’s economic growth.”

He added that in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), where MATTA serves as a Strategic Partner, the association aims to create greater exposure and business opportunities for its members while positioning Sabah more prominently on the global tourism map.

Looking ahead, Azlan said MATTA Sabah also supports upcoming initiatives such as Visit Sabah 2027, formerly known as Explore Sabah 2027, with an emphasis on niche segments including Muslim-friendly travel packages. Sustainability will remain a priority, with increased participation from community-based tourism products to promote inclusive and sustainable industry development.

RHB Bank has been appointed the Official Bank Partner for the event, offering exclusive on-site promotions, attractive payment solutions and special rewards for visitors. Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is the Official Airline Partner and will provide a range of travel options and promotional fares to enhance connectivity and value for travellers.

Visitors to the fair can also take part in the MATTA Fair Buyers’ Contest. Shoppers who spend a minimum of RM100 will stand a chance to win attractive prizes, including travel-related rewards.

MATTA Fair Sabah 2026 is expected to draw strong participation from industry players and consumers alike, further reinforcing Sabah’s growing tourism momentum.
