KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2026 today signed an Exchange of Cooperation Document with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), recognising the agency as a MIFF International Trade Partner. Together, they aim to further promote high-quality Malaysian furniture worldwide.
This strategic partnership builds on MIFF’s 31-year proven track record, aligning closely with the Government’s goal to boost Malaysia’s trade and export sectors. MATRADE’s decision to partner with MIFF also reflects the event’s reputation as a leading, trusted trade show.
As global demand for responsibly produced, high-quality furniture remains strong, Malaysian exporters are well-placed to meet this with exceptional products. MATRADE will provide market insights, targeted access, and ongoing trade support to help navigate challenges such as rising costs, changing trade policies, and increasing buyer expectations around sustainability, design innovation, and supply chain resilience.
The Exchange of Cooperation Document was signed by MATRADE CEO Mr Abu Bakar Yusof and Informa Markets Malaysia General Manager Mr Gerard Leeuwenburgh, witnessed by senior industry representatives including Deputy Director General of the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) Ts Farydatul Nazly, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) CEO Ms Tan Mei Phing, and others.
Abu Bakar stated: “This partnership aims to elevate Malaysia’s furniture industry globally by combining MIFF’s recognised platform with MATRADE’s trade expertise, connecting local manufacturers with top international buyers.”
He added: “MIFF is not just a trade exhibition but a global benchmark, ranked among the top 10 furniture trade shows worldwide and the largest in Southeast Asia. Our collaboration will showcase Malaysian creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship to achieve international trade success.”
Kelie Lim remarked: “Our partnership will enable MIFF to reach new heights in connecting international buyers with Malaysian sellers. It will also enhance opportunities for visitors and strengthen Malaysia’s reputation in the global furniture industry, showcasing the latest design trends and technologies.”
Gerard Leeuwenburgh said: “Informa Markets Malaysia is honoured to work with MATRADE, with whom we have previously collaborated on initiatives like International Healthcare Week. Their expertise and global networks help us expand Malaysia’s trade footprint and create long-term value.”
Since its debut in 1995, MIFF has become Southeast Asia’s largest export-oriented furniture trade show, recognised as a trusted platform for sourcing innovative, high-quality, and competitively priced furniture. It highlights Malaysia’s position as one of the world’s top 10 furniture exporters.
The 32nd edition of MIFF will be held from 4–7 March 2026 at MITEC and the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). Covering 100,000 square metres across 17 halls, the event will feature over 700 exhibitors and attract 20,000 buyers from 140 countries.
During the press conference, MFA President Steve Ong expressed enthusiasm, stating: “This partnership will greatly benefit industry players by expanding export markets. I look forward to working closely with MATRADE and MIFF to ensure Malaysian furniture continues to thrive globally.”
As MIFF’s Strategic Partner since 2013, MFA, based in Muar, the furniture capital of Malaysia—contributes around 80% of the nation’s furniture exports. This partnership aims to create new opportunities and strengthen the competitiveness of Malaysian furniture manufacturers through better access to market intelligence, trade support, and international exposure.
MIFF is endorsed by key organisations including the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, MTIB, the Malaysian Timber Council, and supported by the Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Tourism Malaysia. The Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign will further boost international visitors to MIFF 2026.
Early visitors can enjoy free admission by registering before 13 February 2026, saving RM30 and gaining access to exclusive buyer programmes for more efficient sourcing.
