MOU Between UCSF and BRL for common goals

KOTA KINABALU: A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was recently signed between the University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) and Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu.
The MOU was signed by Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris, Vice Chancellor of UCSF, and Mr. Freddie Coleman, CEO of BRL.
The event was witnessed by Mr. Hanafiah Diman, Corporate Secretary of Yayasan Sabah, and Mr. Douglas Joinol, Chief Operating Officer of Innoprise Corporation Sdn. Bhd. Management and staff from both UCSF and BRL were also in attendance.
Freddie Coleman emphasised the significance of the MOU, stating, "This agreement formalises a crucial step in fostering collaboration between education and the sustainability-driven eco-tourism industry, while honouring Yayasan Sabah’s mission to empower the people of Sabah."
He added, "By combining UCSF’s strengths in education with BRL’s expertise in nature-based tourism, this partnership aims to develop skilled professionals who are prepared to lead global eco-tourism ventures. Through the UCSF-BRL MOU, Yayasan Sabah continues to create job opportunities, support a sustainability-driven industry, and contribute to a brighter future for Sabah and its people."
Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris noted, “This MOU establishes a framework for cooperation that is mutually beneficial to both parties."
He highlighted that both organizations are committed to promoting collaboration in various areas, including providing internship placements for suitable UCSF students and engaging in educational activities, among other mutually agreed initiatives.
“This partnership has the potential to develop skilled professionals who are prepared to lead global eco-tourism ventures.”
He expressed confidence that this MOU will further strengthen collaboration and create benefits for UCSF, BRL, and numerous stakeholders across Sabah.
