SANDAKAN: Tanjong Papat State Assemblyman Datuk Poon Ming Fung has called on Sandakan City Council (MPS) to improve its services towards the community.

He stated that MPS should have stepped in and be more responsive to resolve any issues or disputes between hawkers and stall owners.

Poon who is also Chairman of DAP Sabah explained that one of the hawker operators known as Chin had come forward to raise issues regarding MPS for neglecting their work and failing to follow on his complaint against an adjourning operator of a business on the first floor.

“Complaints to MPS had been made on Dec 1, however, until now there has been no follow up complaint as it involves an issue with discharged water seeping through and down along some part of the walls of the premises of Chin.

“Hence damage to the paints and of course the issue of hygiene is of much concern. This is especially so when such premises are rented out as a restaurant,” he said.

Poon was also dissatisfied with the MPS’ standard operating procedure (SOP) and its response time.

“I hope they pay more care to the general public especially ratepayers. They should improve on the services to the community. Otherwise, how can we expect to be a city when our services are not up to mark.

“The dispute between the respective occupiers and owners should also be resolved by MPS to determine several issues and to avoid any unnecessary open disputes which may turn ugly if the council do not attend to the complaint early,” he added.
