TAWAU: Treasurer of Gagasan Rakyat Apas Division, Datuk Najib Tay Abdullah, has been appointed Honorary President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Tawau (TCA).
The appointment letter was presented by TCA President, Henery Wong Chen Khiong, on behalf of the entire committee in a brief ceremony held recently.
According to Wong, the appointment is a recognition of Najib’s significant contributions and ongoing support for TCA’s various programmes and activities, as well as his role in community welfare initiatives.
Najib, who also serves as Chairman of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Santun Kasih Sabah (PERSANTUN), described the appointment not merely as an honour, but as a great responsibility.
“TCA is not just an ordinary association. It is a stronghold of the Tawau Chinese community’s spirit, founded on the sacrifices and tireless efforts of previous generations. TCA is a large family that unites various Chinese organisations in Tawau and serves as a vital platform for preserving heritage and unity,” he said.
He pledged to use his position as Honorary President to serve as a bridge between the government and the community, thereby helping to strengthen TCA’s role.
“I am ready to bring the voices of the community to the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, and to the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, who is also Gagasan Rakyat Apas Division Chief, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, to ensure more direct and effective support can be channelled,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Swearing-in Ceremony for the TCA Committee Members for the 2025–2027 term will take place on 13 August at the Hing Hwa Chinese Primary School (SJKC Hing Hwa) Hall in Tawau, with the Chief Minister as the guest of honour.
