KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster known as the Pintas cluster involving two districts has emerged caused by infections in the workplace.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that among the localities involved are Lingkudau, Luagan and Patikan in Keningau, and Sunsuron in Tambunan.
“The index case is a 34-year-old woman working in an electrical supply company in Keningau. She tested positive for the virus through symptomatic screening on June 15.
"Following the case, out of 82 close contacts have been screened with two of them testing positive on June 16.
“On the next day, six more close contacts also tested positive. One more positive case was also then detected in Tambunan, bringing the cumulative total in the cluster to 10 cases,” he said in a statement today.
According to Masidi, it is believed that the narrow space of the workplace that failed to implement social distance is the cause of the infection.
