KOTA KINABALU: PETRONAS has contributed to relief efforts for residents affected by the recent fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, which damaged homes and displaced families.

The assistance was mobilised through relevant state agencies. As part of the response, PETRONAS prepared essential supply packages for distribution through the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS).

Each package includes bottled drinking water, warm blankets, bath towels, toiletries, sanitary pads, basic cutlery sets, baby wipes, and garbage bags.

During a handover held today at the Sabah Social Welfare Department’s (JPKA) depot here, General Manager of PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab, presented the contribution to Secretary of the State Home Affairs and Research Office, Chief Minister’s Department, Datuk Awang Shahminan Datuk Awang Sahari, who is also Secretary of the SDMC.

Earlier, a symbolic presentation was held with MPS President, Datuk Walter Kenson. Also present was JPKA Deputy Director of Operations, Asnah Kasim.

“We hope these supplies can help ease the burden for families going through a difficult time. We are working closely with the relevant agencies to ensure the assistance reaches those who need it most,” said Siti Ayu.

Last year, PETRONAS contributed approximately RM1.1 million towards disaster relief efforts across Sabah.

To date this year, the company has contributed RM398,000 towards similar efforts in the state.
