Petronas scholarship recipients are encouraged to seize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahan recipients of the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge Education Sponsorship 2024 were encouraged to seize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and acquire new skills.


Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor conveyed this message during a reception held for 12 outstanding students from Sabah who were selected as part of the 107 recipients this year. These twelve individuals, who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 examinations, were among the 600 students nationwide awarded the scholarship.


In his address to the students, Hajiji expressed his confidence in their potential for a bright future, urging them to strive for excellence as they are the future leaders who will drive the development of both the state and the nation.


He commended PETRONAS for its unwavering support in sponsoring these students and emphasized the importance of developing human capital in alignment with the goals of Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya.


Highlighting the State Government's commitment to human capital development, Hajiji mentioned the allocation of RM470 million for scholarships and study loans. He acknowledged the need for additional support, mentioning the involvement of Yayasan Sabah and the establishment of the Sabah Education Fund to assist in financing the education of children in the state.


Furthermore, he also announced one-off assistance for Form Four and Form Five students, as well as those enrolling in higher education institutions, to support their educational pursuits.


The event was attended by key figures including State Education Department Director Datuk Raisin Saidin, Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong, and representatives from PETRONAS.
