KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Retired Educators Association (PMPS) paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister of Sabah, represented by his Political Secretary, Azrul Ibrahim, at Menara Kinabalu here on Monday. The visit aimed to strengthen strategic collaboration in education and the welfare of retirees.

The delegation of eight senior PMPS leaders was led by its President, Dr Aslie Sahat, alongside Deputy President Husain Basir; Vice Presidents Datuk Dr Julkifli Sukor and Datuk Sapawae Husin; Secretary-General Alli Majittaba; Assistant Secretary Dr Kassim Buntak; SJKT representative Hj Yazid Hj Mohd Hasnan Tawik @ Charles; and Lawasa Amat Kassim.

Dr Aslie stated that the visit was intended to reinforce the network of cooperation between retired educators and state leadership to advance educational development and the welfare of retirees in Sabah.

“During the discussions, we submitted proposals for annual grant funding to enable the association to implement various programmes throughout the year.

“These include welfare initiatives for members, scholarly dialogues, community service, voluntary mentoring in rural schools, and community empowerment initiatives,” he said in a statement today.

He emphasised that retired educators are not merely recipients of welfare, but strategic assets for the state, capable of contributing expertise, experience, and extensive community networks built over decades of service in education and public administration.

“Retirement is not the end of our contribution; rather, it marks a new phase to continue providing support in a more flexible and strategic manner towards human capital development in the state,” he added.

Meanwhile, PMPS expressed appreciation to the Chief Minister for his willingness to receive the delegation and for providing an open and constructive dialogue.

Gratitude was also extended to the Chief Minister’s Political Secretary for his professional reception and positive response to the association’s proposals and strategic planning.

PMPS is confident that close collaboration between the state government and the association of retired educators can serve as a catalyst for more inclusive, sustainable development agendas grounded in practical experience.
