KOTA KINABALU: Former President of the Honorary Members Association of the Malaysian Volunteer Corps (RELA) Sabah, Datuk Jerry Ambuting Mohd Said, has described the statement by former Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli , who intends to sue the government if the investigation by the (MACC) does not lead to charges, as inappropriate and potentially damaging to public confidence in enforcement institutions.
He said that all parties, particularly high-profile political figures, should allow the MACC to carry out its investigations professionally without pressure or negative perceptions.
“The MACC is an independent body mandated to investigate any allegations of misconduct. Issuing statements in the form of legal threats before the investigation process is completed may create unhealthy perceptions among the public,” he said in a statement .
Jerry stressed that any allegations should be addressed through proper legal channels rather than through political pressure or public statements that could confuse the public.
According to him, describing the investigation as “intimidation” is also seen as unhelpful to efforts to strengthen the integrity of national institutions.
“If a person is confident of their innocence, they should fully cooperate with the authorities and allow the legal process to take its course. That is the most mature approach,” he said.
He further commented that the principle of the rule of law must be respected by all parties, regardless of political standing.
Jerry also reminded that making comparisons with other issues or past allegations would not help to calm the situation, but would instead prolong the polemic.
“The public wants to see transparency and professionalism. All parties must remain calm and avoid statements that could erode trust in enforcement agencies,” he said.
In addition, he urged all political leaders to focus on the nation’s development agenda and the welfare of the people, rather than continuing to spark controversy.
He added that any disputes related to investigations should be resolved through the proper legal process.
“Let the MACC carry out its duties independently and professionally. In the end, the truth will emerge through the legal process,” he said.
