KOTA KINABALU: The Rotary Club of Likas Bay recently visited three schools in the Ranau district as part of a community outreach initiative aimed at supporting the education of children in rural areas.

During the visit, the club donated a total of 222 school bags to students across the three schools. Thirty bags were presented to pupils of SK Kimondou, 50 to students of SK Kinirasan, and 142 to those attending SK Paginatan.

Club President Aldrin Wong said the contribution, though modest, carried significant meaning. He explained that the school bags symbolised the club’s commitment to rural communities and its efforts to ease the burden on parents as they prepare their children for school.

He added that the donation served as a reminder to students that they are not alone in their pursuit of knowledge.

Addressing the students, Wong encouraged them to focus on their studies, emphasising that education is the foundation of future success. He noted that there are no shortcuts to achieving one’s dreams, whether in medicine, aviation, teaching or entrepreneurship, and stressed that success begins in the classroom.

The club also expressed its appreciation to the headmasters and teachers of the participating schools for their warm hospitality and cooperation.

Wong acknowledged the dedication of educators in shaping the nation’s future and thanked them for their trust in allowing the Rotary Club to carry out the community project.

Students were urged to make good use of the school bags by filling them with books and knowledge, and to strive to be excellent students and responsible children.

The Rotary Club conveyed its hopes and prayers for the students’ success in the years ahead.

The programme achieved its objectives of easing the financial burden on parents, motivating students to attend school, and strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and non-governmental organisations.

The donation benefited 222 students, many of whom were delighted to receive the new school bags. The initiative was carried out smoothly and further strengthened the positive relationship between the schools and the Rotary Club of Likas Bay.
