Sabah Budget 2026: Ministries’ allocations

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government today presented its Budget 2026, with Minister of Finance Datuk Masidi Manjun outlining a financial plan aimed at fostering economic resilience, infrastructure development, and improved public services across the state.


In his presentation at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly Session, Datuk Masidi detailed the total allocations, emphasising a balanced approach between operational needs and long-term investments.


The Ministry of Finance was allocated RM2.899 billion in supply funds and RM209.02 million for development projects. The Ministry of Public Works and Utilities received over RM1.122 billion in operational funding, complemented by RM534.28 million for development initiatives. The Chief Minister’s Department was allocated RM792.83 million for operations and RM190.58 million for development.


Other key allocations included RM416.76 million in supply and RM143.09 million in development for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industries. The Ministry of Rural Development received RM122.72 million in supply funds and RM195 million for development. The Ministry of Local Government and Housing was allocated RM230.26 million for operations and RM27.19 million for development.


The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation was granted RM186.54 million in supply and RM18.18 million for development, while the Ministry of Women, Health and Community Well-being was allocated RM160.36 million in supply and RM13.19 million in development. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment received RM135.75 million in supply and RM38.70 million in development. The Ministry of Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy was allocated RM88.01 million in supply and RM10.05 million in development.


The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneur and Transport received RM105.67 million in supply funds and RM88.36 million for development projects. Additionally, contingency expenditure was set at RM91.05 million, with RM50.03 million allocated for expenditure not included within specific ministries.


Masidi said, “The Sabah government has taken steps to reduce the gap between Supply Expenditure and Development Expenditure, with Supply Expenditure representing 86 percent in 2024, decreasing to 85 percent this year, and proposed to further decrease to 78 percent by 2026. This effort will be intensified to ensure that Development Expenditure is increased to deliver a significant impact on Sabah’s inclusive development.”
