KOTA KINABALU: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC) and Sabah Electricity, marking the company as the first anchor company in Sabah to join MEDC’s Vendor Development Programme (PPV).

Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said that under the PPV, the Ministry provides support grants of up to RM1.2 million to vendor companies that secure contracts or procurements from anchor companies for the Vendor Innovation Development Programme and Vendor Capacity Development Programme.

“To date, Sabah Electricity is the 39th company to sign an MoU with MEDC.

This MoU is also a result of the implementation of the Domestic Look East Policy that I introduced within MEDC to address the specific needs of entrepreneurs in Sabah and Sarawak.

The Ministry is also in discussion with Sarawak Energy and hopes it will become the 40th company, and the first from Sarawak, to join KUSKOP’s anchor company initiative,” he said.

He said this when speaking to reporters after officiating at Sabah Electricity Vendor Day 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.

Through this MoU, Bumiputera vendors registered with Sabah Electricity will be eligible to receive various forms of support, including training and technical development, entrepreneurship advisory services, and research and commercialisation assistance through the Vendor Capacity Development Programme (PPKV) and the Vendor Research and Commercialisation Grant (GPPV).

Ewon added that during the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK12) period, seven Bumiputera companies in Sabah that were vendors to five existing anchor companies received PPKV and GPPV grants from MEDC.

“For the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK13), MEDC is targeting 120 Bumiputera vendor companies nationwide to benefit from these grants, including 15 companies from Sabah,” he said.

He further stated that Sabah Electricity also qualifies for a Double Deduction Tax Incentive following its appointment as an anchor company under the PPV.

“MEDC remains committed to strengthening entrepreneurial development in Sabah and Sarawak so that local entrepreneurs become more competitive, innovative, and capable of penetrating both national and regional markets,” he said.

Also present were MEDC Secretary-General Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, Sabah Electricity Chairperson Saadiah Aziz, and senior officials from KUSKOP and Sabah Electricity.
