Sabah Forestry Department Marks Leadership Transition with Handover Ceremony

SANDAKAN: The address and handover of duties for the new Chief Conservator of Forests of Sabah was held at the Sabah Forestry Department Headquarters and was attended by over 200 officers from across the state.


The event saw the formal handover of the Official Handover Note from Datuk Frederick Kugan to Zulkifli Suara, the newly appointed Chief Conservator of Forests of Sabah.


This handover marks a smooth and professional transition of leadership, in line with best governance practices in the public service.


In his final speech as Chief Conservator of Forests of Sabah, Frederick Kugan expressed his utmost gratitude to all staff for their unwavering support, cooperation, and commitment throughout his six years in the role.


He also emphasised that the department’s successes and achievements are the result of collective efforts by staff at all levels, from senior management to field personnel, who form the backbone of the state’s forest resource management.


Meanwhile, in his inaugural address Zulkifli Suara expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the confidence placed in him to lead the department. He hopes to maintain a continuous commitment to advancing sustainable forest management and to strengthen departmental governance in the management of forest resources.


He also extended his thanks and appreciation to Frederick Kugan for his 39 years of service with the Sabah Forestry Department and acknowledged his contributions and dedication in elevating the state’s forestry sector to a higher standard of excellence nationally and internationally.


This occasion not only symbolises the continuity of leadership but also reflects the Sabah Forestry Department’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that Sabah’s forest heritage is managed sustainably. - Anna Vivienne
