KOTA KINABALU: Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment has endorsed Sabah as the destination for Miss World Malaysia 2023 pageant, which will be held on August 25 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Its minister Datuk Christina Liew said she regarded the contestants as tourism ambassadors who could help promote Sabah as a tourist destination by sharing their experience here.

She also hoped that the pageant could attract tourists from around the world, not just Malaysians.

"I would like to see this prestigious event happening in Sabah as we regard the contestants as tourism ambassadors. We expect them to help promote Sabah as a tourist destination by sharing their experience here.

"At the same time, I would be happy if this pageant can attract tourists from around the world, and not just Malaysians from throughout the country," she said after a courtesy call by event officials from HyperLive (Singapore) and Sabah-based Fantastic Golden Sdn Bhd (Main Organiser of Hyperlive Festival Malaysia) on Thursday.

The event is part of HyperLive Festival Malaysia, organised by HyperLive (Singapore) and Fantastic Golden Sdn Bhd.

According to Dr Sean Wong, CEO of Hyperlive Entertainment and National Director of Miss World Malaysia, there will be 25 to 30 finalists selected to compete in Sabah.

He said they chose Sabah for its tourism potential and cultural diversity.

He added that Miss World Malaysia 2023 will represent Malaysia at the Miss World Final for 2024 and become an ambassador for tourism and charity.

The pageant will not have a swimsuit segment but will feature traditional attire, talent showcase and debate.

Last year’s winner of Miss World Malaysia 2022 was Wenanita Anggang, a Sabahan who will compete in the Miss World 2023 Grand Final in UAE this year.
