SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council ( MPS) Market Tamu and Vendor Committee conducted an inspection yesterday at several Ramadan Bazaar locations from Mile 8 to the town coastal highway area.

Present during the inspection were MPS councillors Chong Thien Ming, Liew Kian Vun, Mohd Ali, and Fung Yee Soon, alongside Head of the Market Unit, Ahmad Naquip, and Market Unit officer, Sanisah.

The team visited six out of the eight designated Ramadan Bazaar sites under the council’s jurisdiction.

The primary aim of the inspection was to assess vendors’ compliance with health regulations, evaluate the operational condition of stalls, and compare pricing among vendors.

Councillor Chong Thien Ming, who led the team, stated they were generally satisfied with the overall condition of the stalls, though some areas require improvement.

He also mentioned that inspectors from the Health Ministry Malaysia (KKM) are conducting regular checks on food handling and hygiene standards.

“We want to ensure that all food sold to the public is safe and of acceptable quality, as preventing food poisoning remains a top priority,” Chong emphasised.

Strict regulations have been enforced from the start of Ramadan bazaar operations. Vendors who fail to comply risk fines or even losing their licences to operate during this period.

The team assured the public that monitoring will continue throughout Ramadan to ensure that all food sold at the bazaars remains safe for consumption.
