KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) celebrated its 70th Anniversary in a grand commemorative ceremony, marking seven decades of unwavering commitment to the people of Sabah through inclusive financial services, social impact, and visionary leadership, on Sunday.
Gracing the event, the Finance Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun, also witnessed the handing over of RM18 million in interim dividend payment to the State Government, for the financial year of 2024.
He paid tribute to SCC’s enduring legacy, highlighting its remarkable journey since inception in 1954.
"Seventy years of dedicated service, meaningful impact, and continuous evolution is no small feat," said the Minister.
"This celebration is a reflection of SCC’s commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community development."
Masidi commended the leadership of the Board of Directors, helmed by Chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Yee Moh Chai, and the dynamic stewardship of Chief Executive Officer Datuk George Taitim Tulas.
Their direction, he noted, has been instrumental in SCC’s transformation into a robust and responsible financial institution.
Special recognition was also extended to SCC’s staff, past and present, as well as its retirees and former leaders, whose legacy and dedication continue to shape the institution’s path forward.
Throughout its history, SCC has played a pivotal role in advancing the Sabah State Government’s economic and social agenda. Through accessible credit solutions, particularly in underserved and rural communities, SCC has contributed significantly to sectors such as agriculture, light industry, rural development, urban housing, and public utilities.
"SCC has shown a deep understanding of what it means to serve with purpose," said Masidi.
"Its financial services have not only empowered individuals but also uplifted entire communities."
The Finance Minister also lauded SCC for its high standards in asset management, corporate governance, and leadership accountability.
He further highlighted SCC’s integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its business practices, a progressive approach in an era where sustainability is imperative.
A shining example of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), SCC has invested over RM70 million in more than 700 projects across Sabah. These include the construction of rural hostels, educational and support centres, provision of medical aid, and initiatives to empower single mothers, persons with disabilities, and orphanages.
"The impact of SCC’s CSR efforts speaks volumes about its compassionate and community-driven ethos," said Datuk Masidi.
Looking forward, the Minister called for enhanced collaboration between SCC and other government agencies, encouraging further innovation and inclusion in financial services for the people of Sabah. He also urged organisations across sectors to emulate SCC’s values-driven approach to development.
“As we celebrate the past and present achievements of SCC, let us also look to the future with optimism and purpose. Let this milestone be a springboard for greater cooperation and shared progress.”
The event concluded with renewed commitments to building a more inclusive and prosperous Sabah, anchored by SCC’s legacy and ongoing pursuit of making a difference.
