KOTA KINABALU: Another trash trap at the drainage channel behind the Funky Farm restaurant has been installed , strengthening ongoing efforts to keep the rivers in Kapayan clean.
This initiative was made possible through close collaboration with the River Squad Kapayan (RSK) and the local community.
According to Kapayan State Assemblywoman datuk Jannie Lasimbamg, the project has already proven its effectiveness.

The first trash trap in Kg. Sodomon successfully intercepted more than 10 tonnes of plastic and organic waste from entering the Petagas River last year. With the addition of this second trap, the effort is now being expanded further.
“If a place is dirty and polluted, it reflects the attitude of its people. Places are shaped by the community; not the other way around. This is why change must begin with awareness and collective action,” she stressed.
As an environmental activist long before entering politics, Jannie emphasised that such initiatives are not merely physical projects but represent a people’s movement driven by the spirit of community.
She also announced that the Kapayan River Festival 3.0 will take place at the end of September as a continuation of community education, awareness, and activities celebrating Kapayan’s rivers.
Jannie urged all Kapayan residents to continue working together to care for Kapayan as one shared home that must be preserved for today’s generation and the generations to come.
