KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) and the private sector have been urged to play a key role in shaping Smart City development in the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said Smart City development will be a major focus for Sabah, with two such projects planned in Penampang and Kota Kinabalu.

“Looking ahead, Smart City development will be a key focus for Sabah. With two Smart Cities planned in Penampang and Kota Kinabalu, we are entering a new era of urban innovation. I encourage SHAREDA and the private sector to take an active role in shaping these smart cities, integrating technology, sustainability and community needs to create smarter, more liveable spaces for the future,” he said in his speech, which was delivered by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam, at SHAREDA’s 47th Anniversary Dinner at the Magellan Sutera Resort here last night.

Hajiji reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to maintaining a business-friendly environment that promotes investment and innovation.

“We are committed to streamlining procedures, enhancing service delivery and ensuring that our policies remain transparent, fair and supportive of investor confidence. At the same time, providing housing for our people remains a top priority,” he said.

He added that the government will continue collaborating with the private sector to ensure affordable, quality homes are accessible to all Sabahans, particularly those in the B40 and M40 groups.

The Chief Minister also praised SHAREDA’s growing emphasis on sustainable and green development, aligning with the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan.

“This forward-looking approach ensures that the growth we pursue today will not compromise the needs of tomorrow,” he said, commending SHAREDA for its strong partnership with the State Government in driving Sabah’s growth agenda.

He noted that the property sector remains a vital pillar of Sabah’s economy, driving investment, job creation and improved quality of life.

“As we move forward, development must remain balanced and inclusive to create opportunities while ensuring sustainability and delivering long-term value for all Sabahans,” Hajiji said.
